A new kind of community map is in the planning for Lake Stevens. The one of a kind project is a cooperative effort between local artist Mia Raines of MRA Productions and Foster Press.

Mia Raines will be creating a "living art" painting of our area from an eagle's-eye view. The detail will grow as the community grows and be updated annually.

Businesses are invited to sponsor the project by having their site painted on the map and company name and/or logo painted on their building. Advertisers will get copies of the map to sell in their place of business.

The Chamber board has given its endorsement to this project and, in addition to the maps provided for their distribution, will receive a portion of the advertising revenue as well as a permanent ornate pedestal display case to be placed in the downtown area.

One of the unique features of this map is that there will be a traditional street map on one side, and the hand-painted artistic rendition on the other side. Another feature is that a history narrative will be around the edge of the artistic map, and a business directory describing each business and events of our community. The map will include hand painted details of native vegetation, animals, a full view of the lake, surrounding mountains, centennial trail and painted details of all the fun at Lake Stevens.

Samples of artwork are on display at Twin Quilts in downtown Lake Stevens, or at Foster Press near Frontier Village.
